I have been to orchestra concerts before, but they did not even come close to the Paris Symphony at the Salle Pleyel. They performed Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique. I loved it! The piece had five movements and it lasted for about an hour. It did not feel like an hour at all! The music was so enthralling, and watching it performed live was intense! I really really enjoyed it. It's interesting that the French do not believe in standing ovations. They just keep clapping while they sit! In the first piece there was a woman who sang opera along with the orchestra, and after it was over she kept going off stage and coming back on and bowing for as long as the audience would clap. She went out and came back in five times! After about the third time the entire audience was clapping insync to the same beat. I thought it was pretty funny actually. I think the conductor walked in and out about twenty times at the end of the symphony! It is so interesting to experience so many different settings and see the cultural differences. I am afraid I am getting used to all of this amazing entertainment at my fingertips. However will I handle Rexburg, Idaho after all of these sophistocating experiences!?
